Essential and Optional Lighting for Your Car

this post is created by wahaj nazar

When you drive a car, it’s absolutely essential that you see where you’re going. It is also important that other drivers can see you, and can tell when you are planning on making a turn. As a result, it is absolutely essential that the lighting, lamps and other accessories in your car are in proper working order. If your lights are dim or are not working, it is time to get them replaced.

Headlights

If you’re going to drive your car at night or in adverse weather conditions, you want to ensure that your headlights are in proper working order. If your light burns out, you will have to replace it. Most vehicles that have been sold in North America since the later part of the 1980s use a headlight with a lens reflector on it. The bulbs in these headlights can often be replaced by an ordinary driver, usually without any special tools. Older vehicles may have sealed beam headlights that are more difficult to replace. Your car’s headlights can become dirty, pitted, or cracked over time. The reflector inside your headlight can also have difficulties. The reflector can lose its ability to reflect if water enters the headlight, the wrong bulb wattage is used, or as they age. If these vehicle parts cannot be cleaned properly, they will need to be replaced.

Tail Lights

Tail lights help other drivers see you when you are driving at night. If your tail lights are not working properly, don’t be surprised if you are pulled over by a police officer and given a ticket. Normally, tail lights automatically come on when you turn on your headlights. Tail lights are red in color. If your tail light goes out, you will need to replace it. Tail lights serve a different function than brake lights do, and can either be combined with them or can be separate.

Brake Lights

Brake lights will turn on day or night whenever you step on your car’s brake. Like the tail light, brake lights are red in color. Brake lights are brighter than tail lights. Many newer vehicles also have a third brake light, also known as the Center High Mount Stop Lamp. This light provides extra visibility to any cars driving behind you, and also serve as a backup to the regular brake lights. The Center High Mount Stop Lamp will shine steadily, except in some cases when your car is stopping very rapidly, some of these lights will flash. It is essential that your brake lights are working properly in order to prevent other cars from rear-ending you.

Lighting Accessories

Many people like to add custom lights to their cars. Cars can have neon lights fitted to their undercarriage. License plate frames can be surrounded with neon light. Even motorcycles can be fitted with special lights for its underside. Before you install any of these fancy accessories to your car, check with your state’s law. It is illegal to put blue lights on your car. Additionally, your state might have laws against putting anything on your car that could distract other drivers. If you install these extras to your car, think about safety when you choose to use them.
